Many buildings in Herberton date back to the early 1880s and are a reminder of the frontier era. A walk down the main street is like a step back in time. The picture at left shows Herberton in September/October when the Jacaranda trees are in bloom. Herberton has Caravan Park accommodation, motel, Historic Hotels, B & B and farmstay accommodation and cafes and is a great base from which to explore the region. Herberton is also the location of Australia's only Museum of Camera's and Photography. The extensive camera and photography collection is housed in the Jack and Newell building, one of the oldest buildings in the Tropical North. There are also other museums, including a reconstructed historical village - the Tin Pannekin. The Royal Hotel in Herberton is the oldest pub on the Tablelands. The hills around Herberton contain a network of trails for trekking, hiking or just a scenic stroll. There are myriad historical sites in a wilderness setting.
