NTU prof to speak on nuclear affairs @ Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club, a group founded by Professor Jerome Keating that invites scholars to speak and lead discussions on historical issues and current affairs, will be meeting Saturday, April 9th at 10 am.

Topic: Taiwan and Nuclear Power, the Implications of Japan’s recent earthquake/tsunami experience for Taiwan

The meeting is open to all, and likely to draw assorted academics, professionals and visiting scholars.

The invited speaker is Gloria Hsu, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at National Taiwan University (NTU), and ex-chair of the Taiwan Environmental Protection Union. She will be addressing nuclear power, the impact of Japan’s recent earthquake/tsunami and its implications for Taiwan. See her bio below.

The meeting location is the downstairs room of the restaurant 婷婷翠玉 at 174 AnHe Road, Section Two. A rough translation of name is Tender, Pretty Green Jade. You will be able to tell the restaurant by the lace curtains on the window. There is no cover charge. Breakfast cost will range between NT$100 and NT$150. Everyone buys their own. Restaurant is between Far Eastern Plaza Mall/Hotel and HePing East Road–about a half a block north of the corner of HePing East Road Sec. 3 and AnHe Road. or a half a block south of Far Eastern Plaza on the AnHe Road side.

Take the MRT Mucha Line to the Liuchangli Station exit there, and walk west on HePing East Road 3/4 of a block till you reach where AnHe Road dead-ends into it.Then go north on AnHe Road; it is a half a block up on the west side of that street.

Professor Hsu’s bio:
Gloria Kuang-Jung Hsu is Professor at National Taiwan University. Major academic interests are Atmospheric Chemistry, Air Pollution. Hsu received B.S. degree in Chemistry from National Taiwan University, and Ph. D in Chemistry, University of Pittsburgh, USA. After graduation, Hsu worked at the NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California, USA. Hsu joined the faculty of Department of Atmospheric Sciences, National Taiwan University, Associate Professor. Ms. Gloria Kuang-Jung Hsu Began as an academic consultant to environmental groups in the early 90s on the possible transport of pollutants from nuclear power plant. She served as a science advisor, Chair of the Coordinator of Academic Committee, and Vice Chair of the Taiwan Environmental Protection Union. Her involvements over the years include anti-nuclear movement, climate change, air pollution, and waste management. She received Master in Public Administration from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University at 2003. She sincerely hopes to make more contributions in energy and environmental policy analysis in the near future.
