A good congressman is rare. It’s also exceedingly rare for US Congressmen to visit Taiwan. And it almost never happens that ordinary people can meet good congressmen in Taiwan. But there will be a confluence of these factors on Sunday April 8, when Democrats Abroad Taiwan hosts a cocktail reception and special dinner event with Rep. Mike Honda from California at Far Eastern Hotel in Taipei.

Honda is visiting Taiwan, and he’s kindly agreed to a fundraiser event to benefit Democrats Abroad’s international organization. There will be a pair of exciting events with Rep. Honda on the evening of Sunday, April 8th — a 6:30 reception at Far Eastern’s Marco Polo Lounge, then at 7:30, fine Chinese cuisine at the hotel’s Shanghai Pavilion.

Congressman Honda represents California’s 15th District, which includes Silicon Valley — he has a strong history as a supporter of human- and civil-rights causes, and on immigration policies he introduced the Reuniting Families Act to help keep families together. As a former World War II Japanese-American internee, Rep. Honda has been a powerful voice against post-9/11 discrimination against American Muslims.

Democrats Abroad is a way to support Democratic candidates in the coming 2012 election and has made the difference in several close House and Senate elections. The VoteFromAbroad.org website developed and maintained by Democrats Abroad has been a excellent tool for allowing Americans around the world to ensure they can vote in U.S. elections, whereas Democrats Abroad also has to meet its expenses in reaching out to Americans in over 80 countries.

To attend just the reception, DA Taiwan asking for a donation of USD 50. To attend both the reception and the dinner event with Rep. Honda, a donation of USD 500. Please note that in line with U.S. FEC requirements, only U.S. citizens over 18 years old may donate. Contributions can be made at this secure website.

Send an RSVP email to democratsabroadtaiwan@gmail.com to track your donation and know how many will attend.
